Over the last two decades, cloud computing has developed into one of the central technologies of the digital world.

One of the most important aspects that companies need to consider when using cloud services is the cost. Cloud computing as a flexible and powerful alternative to traditional IT infrastructure can cause unnecessarily high costs if used inefficiently - especially with Microsoft Azure.

However, if you gain an understanding of the pricing structures of Microsoft Azure and the complex "Bring-Your-Own-License" programmes, you will be able to take appropriate measures to reduce and control costs and benefit fully from the economic advantages of the cloud. The focus of this course is to provide a concrete understanding of the various cost optimisation and cost control options in Azure. This means that the various approaches to cloud cost optimisation (licensing and infrastructure costs) are not just described in theory, but are demonstrated and calculated in practical examples with current Azure prices.

It is essential to understand the various "Bring-Your-Own-License" models (from the classic volume licence agreements) in order to be able to map the licensing costs in Azure in a cost-optimised manner. Microsoft's current strategic product, Azure ARC (a connection of the local infrastructure to Azure) and the economic implications of this model are also addressed. The course is rounded off by commercial issues, above all the functioning of the Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC).

- Private cloud vs. public cloud

- Microsoft "Bring-Your-Own-License" programmes

- Cost structure of a VM in Azure

- Microsoft Hybrid Advantage for Windows Server and SQL Server

- Hybrid advantage controlling ("Azure Workbook")

- Hybrid advantage: phantom licensing

- Hybrid advantage in dedicated environments ("Private Cloud")

- Azure Local

- Cost optimisation of the infrastructure: reservations and savings plans

- AzureARC licence models and their strategic and economic implications

- The AzureArc "discount risk"

- Managing cloud investments with Microsoft Cost Management

- The Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC)

What added value (for you) you can expect

Knowledge of efficient licensing of Azure services, combined with infrastructure savings measures, can significantly reduce your cloud computing costs. Additional cost control tools protect you against unplanned cloud expenses. Choosing the right contract can also have a positive impact on your Azure costs.

If your training course takes place in the virtual classroom, you will receive digital training documents via the Mimeo platform (included in the course price), which can be used online and offline in the Mimeo environment (search/notes, etc.). If you would like printed training documents in addition to the digital documents, you can order these for € 74 net via the registration form.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to send printed training documents to Switzerland and other non-EU countries for customs reasons, so we recommend that you bring an internet-enabled device (e.g. laptop or tablet) with you for face-to-face training in Switzerland.

All classroom training courses are generally equipped with printed training materials (paper - included in the course price). If you would like additional digital training material via Mimeo, you can order this for € 24 net via the registration form.

For face-to-face courses, refreshments during breaks (drinks, pastries and lunch) are included in the course price.
