The importance of open source software (OSS) in the software sector has been growing steadily for years. For many companies, both the use of complete OSS applications and the use of open source components as part of the development of their own proprietary software products are part of everyday business. At the same time, there are increasing reports in the media about how hackers are exploiting security gaps in open source components to penetrate companies' systems and steal sensitive company and customer data. Understanding, recognising and effectively managing the security and compliance risks of open source is therefore becoming increasingly important. Do I have answers when IT wants to "go to the cloud"?

  • Introduction to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)
  • Types of open source licences
  • Compliance risks associated with unknown OSS licence terms
  • Changing licence terms of OSS
  • Licence terms of open source components in application development
  • Case studies
  • Security risks associated with the use of open source applications
  • Use of open source components in application development
  • Case studies
  • Software asset management and open source governance

What added value (for you) can you expect

The course introduces the most important types of open source licences, uses concrete case studies to show the sometimes considerable security and compliance risks of open source software (OSS) as well as approaches to addressing these proactively and effectively.

Persons responsible for purchasing software licences or persons responsible for software asset management / software licence management in companies; IT and security employees.
