This course teaches the basics of Transact-SQL, the Microsoft dialect of the standard SQL language. Topics include querying and modifying data in relational databases hosted in Microsoft SQL Server-based database systems. These include Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Azure Synapse Analytics.

In this course, participants will gain the following skills:
  • Using SQL Server query tools.
  • Writing SELECT statements to retrieve columns from one or more tables
  • Sort and filter selected data
  • Using built-in functions to return data values
  • Create data groups and aggregate results
  • Modify data with Transact-SQL using INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and MERGE
First steps with Transact-SQL:
  • Introduction to Transact-SQL
  • Using the SELECT statement
Sorting and filtering query results:
  • Sorting query results
  • Filtering data
Using JOIN and subqueries:
  • Using JOIN operations
  • Using sub-queries
Using built-in functions:
  • Getting started with scalar functions
  • Grouping aggregated results
Changing data:
  • Inserting data into tables
  • Changing and deleting data
