Understanding and being able to calculate the most important metrics is essential for licence managers in order to always be able to provide information on the extent to which the use of existing licences is permitted.

Using practical examples, you will learn how to determine the actual licence requirements based on IT specifications.

This course will help you to better validate licence offers and avoid compliance problems.

How do I calculate PVU requirements for full and sub-capacity?
How do I calculate Virtual Processor Cores?
What is behind a Resource Value Unit?

In our 1-day training course, these questions (and more) are discussed using practical examples (e.g. Rational, Websphere, MQ, Cloud Pak for Integration and Filenet). However, the technical aspects of the products are not covered. Legal aspects are also not covered in this course.
In general

Explanation of the most important sources of information
Brief overview of full and sub-capacity & ILMT
Brief overview of IBM Cloud Paks and container licensing
The IBM User Metrics
How do the Authorised, Concurrent and Floating User metrics differ? (Explanation, example and exercise)
How do I collect data on actual usage (example: SPSS / Rational)

The metric "PVU" (Processor Value Unit)

How exactly are PVUs calculated? (Explanation, examples and exercise)

How do I collect data on actual usage? (Example: Websphere Application Server)
What do I have to consider with the PVU metric in relation to SubCapacity? (Example: Websphere Application Server)

The "VPC" (Virtual Processor Core) metric

Brief explanation: IBM MQ
How exactly are virtual processor cores calculated? (Explanation, examples and exercise)
How do I collect data on actual usage? (Example: IBM MQ)
What do I have to consider with the VPC metric in relation to SubCapacity? (Example: IBM MQ)

The metric "RVU" (Resource Value Unit)

What can be hidden behind an RVU?
Brief explanation: IBM Filenet
How exactly are RVUs calculated? (Explanation, example IBM Filenet, incl. exercises)
How do I collect data on actual usage? (Example: Filenet)

The IBM Cloud Paks

What are Cloud Paks and what components do they consist of?

How do I determine the licence requirement based on the various conversion factors?

What role does container licensing play and how is actual usage determined in a containerised environment?
What added value can you expect (for yourself)?

After attending this course, you will be able to calculate the licence requirements for the metrics mentioned and can therefore better validate licence offers and check whether the existing licensing is possibly undersized or oversized.

The case studies mentioned will make it easier for you to communicate with the responsible product managers. The products discussed, as well as abstract metrics, become much more "tangible".

Licence managers, software purchasers and IT specialists who (have to) deal with IBM products based on the metrics PVU and/or, VPC and/or RVU.
This course requires a simple technical understanding and basic knowledge of IBM licensing law. We recommend our IBM basic training course DTL23.

If your training course takes place in the virtual classroom, you will receive digital training documents via the Mimeo platform (included in the course price), which can be used online and offline in the Mimeo environment (search/notes, etc.). If you would like printed training documents in addition to the digital documents, you can order these for € 74 net via the registration form.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to send printed training materials to Switzerland and other non-EU countries for customs reasons.

All classroom training courses are generally equipped with printed training materials (paper - included in the course price). If you would like additional digital training material via Mimeo, you can order this for € 24 net via the registration form.

For face-to-face courses, refreshments during breaks (drinks, pastries and lunch) are included in the course price.
