Anyone who responsibly procures and manages software in a company is working at an immensely important key point in the operational value chain. All this is done against a legal background that is often barely known or - worse still - supposedly misunderstood.

  • Do you know the legal basis of software licensing?
  • Do you know which legal loopholes software manufacturers use today to assert additional claims?
  • What are the risks for the company and for yourself?
  • How realistic are these risks?
  • How can you best prepare yourself?

Licence managers who "learn by doing" are on thin ice and should put their knowledge on a solid foundation. The aim of the seminar is to create this foundation.

This means that course participants will first familiarise themselves with the basic concepts and principles of software law. Afterwards, all essential questions that arise in daily practice will be touched upon. Individual questions can be explored in greater depth using examples or scenarios brought along by the participants.

The trainer is a lawyer and has many years of experience in teaching legal issues in the IT sector.

  • General legal principles
  • Principles of copyright law: What is protected?
  • Licence agreements and contract types
  • Licence types and distribution channels
  • OEM software
  • Open source software
  • Licence trading / software acquisition / SLA / warranty
  • Compliance
  • Special features of AI
  • Liability issues
  • Legal enforcement in and out of court

What added value (for you) can you expect

  • You will know the essential legal principles of software licensing.
  • You will understand the most important licence models used by software manufacturers.
  • You will be able to assess the risks that arise for you and your company.
  • You will know the basic risks of an audit and how to deal with them.

The course has been designed in particular for employees from IT, purchasing, sales, controlling, auditing and management who work in the area of procurement and management of software and licences or who will do so in the future.
